Our Story

A smiling man holding a tray of assorted bagels in a commercial kitchen.

Born from the pursuit to create the best bagels outside of New York, Knead a Bagel brings authentic New York bagel culture to Australia. The business launched in 2019 with a commitment to hand-crafted bagels made the traditional New York way, prepared, boiled and baked in-store. Every bagel is proudly handmade, not mass produced, and our customers can taste and smell the difference.

We craft them. What started as a local idea in Ballarat has grown into a much-loved brand with a loyal following, and we’re now bringing our bagels to more communities so even more people can enjoy them. Our bagels have a strong repeat online trade, are a crowd favorite at farmers’ markets, and are an amazing visual for events and corporate functions. Our mission is simple: to create exceptional bagels and make you smile.

So, if you are feeling kneady; jump online or go in store. No store nearby, perhaps consider your very own franchise.

Freshly Prepared. Served With Care.

How to store bagels

A variety of bagels, some in a plastic bag and some in a plastic container, on a gray surface. The bagels are different flavors, with some topped with sesame seeds and others plain or with what appears to be cinnamon sugar.

Bagels can be eaten freshly baked, or kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Unlike most yeast-based products, bagels can be frozen in an airtight container or freezer bag and still retain their flavour and texture once thawed. For ease of use, consider slicing them before freezing. To thaw, leave at room temperature in an airtight container or, if you are feeding the kids after school in a hurry, try zapping for 1 minute.
