The New York Way

Authentically Handcrafted

Since day one, Knead a Bagel has been dedicated to preparing authentic New York-style bagels in an artisan way.

Our bagels are not just a bread roll as mostly found, they are hand-rolled, proven, kettle-boiled & then baked, creating that perfect golden crust and signature chewy texture.

The Story Behind the Bagel

Its iconic ring shape wasn’t just for looks. It symbolised continuity and life, and was even traditionally given as a gift to women after childbirth.

What makes a bagel truly unique is its method. Unlike regular bread, the dough is first boiled, then baked. This centuries-old technique creates that signature chewy interior and crisp outer crust that bagel lovers know and crave.

Over time, bagels travelled with Eastern European immigrants to cities like New York, where they evolved into the global favourite we enjoy today.

So every bagel you bite into isn’t just fresh bread, it’s a tradition that’s been shaped, boiled, and baked through generations.

Long before bagels became a brunch staple, they carried centuries of history in every bite. The bagel as we know it today traces back to Jewish communities in Poland during the early 1600s, with the first written record appearing in Kraków in 1610.

What Our Customers Say

An elderly man with glasses, a patterned cap, and a striped polo shirt smiling while sitting on a beige chair in front of a patterned curtain.

Hands down the best bagels I’ve had in Australia. Fresh, full of flavour, and actually filling. The classic cream cheese one is my go-to, but everything I’ve tried has been great.

Daniel M

I didn’t realise how much I’d missed a proper bagel until I tried these. The texture is spot on, crispy on the outside and soft inside. You can tell they’re made properly, not just another bread roll with a hole. I’ve already been back three times this week.

Stopped in on a whim and now it’s part of my weekly routine. Fresh and delicious
